AMT Competition Shirts

I had the exciting opportunity to design competition shirts for the teams representing Southwest Airlines at the 2025 MRO Americas competition for aircraft maintenance technicians.

Breaking from tradition where mechanics typically wore their standard work uniforms, Southwest wanted to create something special—a complete line of custom shirts for several groups: judges, two Southwest teams, and one team from Tarrant County Community College. Each team needed unique designs for both days of competition, and the client drew inspiration from the sharp, professional look of Formula 1 pit crew shirts.

What followed was an intensive collaborative design process involving multiple stakeholders, each bringing input to shape the final designs. Through countless iterations and refinements, I ultimately created over 50 different shirt designs. The image below showcases some of the key explorations, with some designs evolving dramatically from initial concept to final execution, while others stayed remarkably close to the original vision.

The design featured below is one that required minimal changes throughout the process. Originally pitched for a different team, this design found its perfect home with the Tarrant County Community College team. It features Southwest's signature brand elements—their distinctive colors, iconic symbols, and beloved Heart motifs.

The competition was a tremendous success, with the teams earning 1st and 2nd place in their respective categories. It was truly an honor to support these skilled mechanics as they represented Southwest Airlines on such a prestigious stage.
